I promise to return to Horseshoe Lake later this year. I tried last August, and because of being out of shape, heat that was in the mid-thirties, and another commitment elsewhere in the park, I had to cut my trip short.

I am hoping to walk more here in the city, build my stamina then return to the trail to the lake in September. Now this is a goal worth aiming for!

Here are some photos from that walk 1 year ago in August, and you will see why I want to return:

Yes, the fire reached here too, just a few meters from the parking lot.
I got as far as the creek that I usually pass over
Where the creek goes into the lake, past the cliffs
The diving cliffs

I used to have this place nearly to myself but now there are lots of people visiting to swim and jump off the cliffs. I have always liked it for the photographic opportunities of excellent reflections that can be very abstract. It is very uneven ground and proves to me that my balance is nowhere near what it used to be. I am thinking that practice in walking and some exercise will help me achieve the goal of retuning here. That is my promise to myself and you are my witnesses!

The place seems so nice that for sure you will return when in a good shape.

My wife and I too this summer had to stop some excursions because of the heat and our bad shape.

How could we train ourselves when temperatures in June were already higher than 30 Celsius?

Yes, Robert, the heat, too, has been a factor, as well as the fact that I have let myself go.

This is interesting. I clicked you name on the comment you posted to my post. It brought me right to your spot. I can’t understand why you don’t get my posts after having subscribed to my blog.

These images are surely beautiful. I can see why you are determined to return. I particularly love the Diving Cliffs and Where the Creek Meets the Lake. I don’t think we will ever enjoy the luxury of solitude in our favorite places any longer. There are just too many people.

Jane, do you use hiking poles? I find them very helpful. Can’t count the number of times they’ve saved me from a bumbling fall.
