All of the participants on the Wildlife Tour were picked up at our accommodations, and it was a full bus with our guide, Lauren, and our driver, Dallen from Sundog Tours.

We drove up to Pyramid to see if the bears were still there, and they had left, so we drove up Maligne Road. The first we saw was a cow moose with a torn ear.

Then we noticed her calf who was in the bushes at first, but came to feed beside her, so we got a couple more shots.

These two were chilling, but alert, watching out the side of their eyes.
I enjoyed watching the relationship between these two, relaxing but watching us out of the side of their eye.

We drove further up the road where there was a bit of a traffic jam. Sure enough, another cow moose and her calf appeared. We waited while they crossed the road.

This calf seemed skittish and ran into the bushes for cover then joined its mother in the ditch

Getting darker, was getting a lot of motion blur as these two started to speed up to get back into the cover of the trees.

We enjoyed that sight, then saw yet another pair! Thus the title, Moose Monday.

Overall, we got the chance to observe these fine animals in their natural habitat behaving naturally without a lot of traffic to distract them. This is the most moose that I have seen during one trip. We also spotted a Mule Deer buck and stopped for a small group of Rocky Mountain Sheep as well as a Grizzly Bear nestled in the rocks above us. I got no photos because it was too dark, but wondered if it was the same bear that I saw in the spring.

It was a great tour with lots of time for observation and guides who are well-versed in animal stories, habitat and history. I like going on these tours because in a bus you are up higher than a car and get a good view point. Also it helps to have a busload of spotters to keep the rest of us informed of the animals. I know where to find animals but the tours are more up to date and they will keep looking until they find something.

When I was dropped off at the resort, it was dark, so I returned to my cabin and watched the movie “the Help.” It was a great way to end and eventful evening.

What a wonderful wildlife tour – that’s more moose than I’ve seen all my life – Moose Monday indeed!
